You have it already…

“We are born to a comfortable position enough, if we do not afterwards lose it: the aim of Nature has been to enable us to live well without needing a vast apparatus to enable us to do so: every man is able by himself to make himself happy. External circumstances have very little importance either for good or for evil: the wise man is neither elated by prosperity nor depressed by adversity; for he has always endeavoured to depend chiefly upon himself and to derive all his joys from himself.”   That’s from the essay called “Consolation to Helvia”—Seneca’s truly remarkable letter to his mother after being exiled from Rome by Nero. The letter captures the essence of the Stoic philosophy: “whatever is best for a human being lies outside human control: it can neither be given nor taken away.” In other words, we possess WITHIN OURSELVES the greatest treasure: our ability to CHOOSE OUR RESPONSE to any situation. Here in America we are prone to feeling sorry for ourselves.  We are prone to, dare I say it, WHINING.  Oh I am a woman and the men hold me back with their glass ceiling….Oh I am a child and I have no rights to do anything, Oh I am a person of color and all of my ancestors and I are held back by those who are not “of color” Those are the biggies at this time and certainly not all of the complaints. But what are we really doing here?  We are giving away ALL of our own power.  We are pretending that what is best...

Is Happiness Genetic? Deepak Chopra says maybe so…

I recently came across one of Deepak Chopra’s articles on happiness.  In his article, he speaks to our genetics and what part they play in our happiness.  Interestingly enough, it appears that our choices influence our genetics on the topic of happiness and joy.  I love this as it is why I teach J.O.Y. or Just Own You.  For more of what Deepak Chopra has to say go here: http://bit.ly/2AmqUwc   And, if you want to know how to use the J.O.Y. key to choose, design and create your own perfect life, connect with me at www.ralajoy.com, team@ralajoy.com if you prefer email and join my list so we can keep you up to date on the next great Joyful Adventure in Life Retreat opportunities….I am just going to say, look out waterholes here we come…   much love and many Joyful Adventures!   RalaJoy PS- you can also join me on the Coaches on Fire Radio Network for my live The J.O.Y. I’m on herfuture.com

Hello lovelies,   I am officially on www.herfuture.com blogging.  I wrote a post about what they might not have told you… aiming it at coaches primarily when I realized, well now it really applies to life…with a few tweaks.   Here is the original post:  http://bit.ly/1trTrcf I am going to add the tweaks here:  This is true about any type of success….it is more likely to take more time than less to master anything.  Money, a raise, a new sport, losing weight, unlearning limiting beliefs, and on and on. Course corrections apply to life.  We have grown and evolved….sometimes it is exactly the correct time to quit.  Often it’s just a tweak that is needed.  Either way, course corrections are small easy to make adjustments that often bring the sparkle back or the passion back.  Be on the lookout when a passion runs dry as to when it happened, what were the circumstances, was about a fear you hold? Life is full of sales pitches, “if you rub this cream on your wrinkles in just 10 days you will look 20 years younger!”.  These types of hype usually fail to mention the reality that it takes 60 days and 2 tubs of the cream to really achieve that result for most of us, but hey it worked in 10 days for one lady out of a 1000.  Point being:  commit to designing your life, your way and allow it to take what time it takes.  There are costs to everything we do, whether they are emotional, financial, time, or intellectual nothing is free. We all have our own timing.  Find...

Sex and the City and Me

So, it’s a saturday night, my weekend with the kids…love of my life still 3/4 of the US away and I am watching a Sex and the City Marathon. And I am realizing that one of the things I am missing is this type of girlfriends…the Sex and the City type….my Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha, although one could argue I am the Samantha… It occurs to me that I have a ton of desires that are similar to Carrie Bradshaw….I want the penthouse, the hunky man that is the love of my life (ok I have that one), but what I don’t have is that set of friends.  I have friends of course and some very very good ones. But not the kind I put my kids on hold for, not the ones with similar interests that desire to go drink mimosa’s somewhere cool in Cherry Creek, not the kind that set aside time in their schedules ahead of time so we can have brunch or get drinks at a bar or whatever.   Perhaps in these moments while love of my life is across the states and we have to wait 6 weeks to see each other again, I should have a lifeline called girlfriends. So, I pose the question to you all…..do you have the best girlfriends ever?  Will you give up kid time or man time to hang with them, do you have things that you do together, did you “grow up” together (whether that means from 20 or from 40 or 50?).  Lets face it, we are always growing up….whether we admit it or not. What do...

Things I learned by “Road Tripping”…

It all started with a  conference in Los Angeles. I chose it because I loooove LA.   The plans were set, the room waiting, the excitement building and that is when my dad said, “Hey,when can you go on a road trip to California with me?” “Now”, I replied and the airfare was cancelled, the itinerary adjusted and we where ready to go.  Or so we thought. We had also planned on taking my daughter who is online private schooled for a treat and change of venue and a friend of hers to entertain her during my conference hours…. Then it happened, my dad got sick, the conference leader had to have emergency surgery and had to cancel and here I sat with not one, but two disappointed teenagers.   I had options of course.  I could cancel entirely.  I could go ahead with just the girls OR I could sit down and cry….I was on the hook for the hotel room either way and that sealed the deal for me.  I was going, it would be a mini working vacation.  We would do school at cool cafes and coffee shops, at the observatory park, in different locations in the city to see the impact.  Hey now it was an experiment!   The day before we departed my dad called he was better and wanted to go still.  Okay, new plan…a slight detour to drop him off in Palm Springs to do what he needed for his mom….We just lost a day of time in LA, boo.  As it turned out this was great.  Having a driving co-pilot that...

Welcome back…..to me!

I’M BACK…!!!   Hello out there!!   I have been gone for a bit of time and hope you have enjoyed the postings that occured in my personal abscence.  I have been on a sabbatical of sorts.  I was/am designing my own JoyVenture for the new year.  I chose to take time and dive deep into what lights me up, what I am really good at, what makes me feel….great, the best, happy, fulfilled. For those of you that don’t know, I put on my travel writers hat and published three times at www.pinkpangea.com/rala.  This was a labor of love for me, something I have wondered about for some time and I am sure I will be posting about it. Now on to what’s coming up here at www.ralajoy.com.  The offerings page will be updated in the next few weeks to reveal a new way of co-creating your life by design.  I am totally looking for my peeps that desire the chance to embrace their inner rebel (lets face it if you like me you gotta be just a wee bit rebellious yourself, or ready to fly as a newborn rebel), work together to create an amazing community of like minded, super sensitive, rebels that choose to speak their truth through love and understanding. I am looking for all of you that want to Live & Let Live so to speak.  I truly believe it is not only our divine right but also our divine obligation to be true to ourselves first and foremost.  Before anyone starts in with the “yeah but’s” I am not saying that your...
